We are Passionate About Helping Take Care of Your Children’s Teeth

Why See a Pediatric Dentist?

Just as a pediatrician is a special type of physician, pediatric dentists are trained in the dental care of children, adolescents, and those with special needs. A pediatric dentist spends two years in a residency program after dental school. This additional education includes child psychology, growth and development, special prevention and restorative dental techniques and behavior guidance. Special communication and behavior management techniques are used to increase your child’s comfort level in order to best meet the needs of each individual child. Pediatric dentists use special knowledge and techniques for anxiety prevention and treatment in the dental office situation. When office treatment is not possible due to age, special needs, situational anxiety or extensive decay, they learn and practice outpatient hospital management. In some cases, treatment may need to take place in the operating room using anesthesiologists and other medical professionals for the child’s safety and comfort.

Our office, as well as the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Dental Association, and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends establishing a “Dental Home” for your child by one year of age. Children who are established in a dental home are more likely to receive appropriate preventative and routine oral health care. By seeing a child at this age parents can be educated early enough about healthy dental habits to prevent tooth decay. We focus on prevention, early detection and treatment of dental diseases, as well as keeping current on the latest advances in dentistry for children. Pleasant visits to the dental office promote trust and confidence in your child that will last a lifetime. Our goal is to help all children feel good about visiting the dentist as well as teaching them to properly care for their teeth.
